Bright Horizons Foundation for Children chose Gladden to be the recipient of a Bright Space grant. According to their website, Bright Spaces – special places for children in homeless and domestic violence shelters and other agencies – help children experiencing trauma. Bright Horizons teachers and employees help create Bright Spaces, support them through volunteering, and make a difference across hundreds of communities and serve thousands of children each year. This made it possible for these volunteers to come and update our activity room. Our activity room is utilized daily! Our after school program uses it for homework time and it is used for community meetings, classes, and other children’s activities. They worked all day to repaint the room a bright, crisp white and returned to assemble furniture, hang curtains, place art, and organize! Thank you for making our space brighter!
Current Volunteer Opportunities
Homework Help Tutor: Our After School Program offers Homework Help to students K-12 in the Franklinton community. The graduation rate in our neighborhood is just 50% and we are hoping to provide our youth with as much extra support as possible. We are looking for volunteers to provide homework assistance in a small group setting during our After School Programming hours. This is an excellent way to provide academic support to youth while building positive relationships with our students!
Food Pantry Assistant: Gladden Community House runs one of Central Ohio’s largest Food Pantries. We typically serve between 1,000 and 1,200 families a month! With the high need for food comes a high need of help distributing it. We are looking for volunteers to stock shelves, unpack boxes, help clients through our food pantry, and enter client information into an electronic database. This is an excellent way to get to know members of the Franklinton Community while helping us provide people with basic needs!
Home Deliveries of Food to Seniors/Disabled Residents: One of the many services the Gladden Food Pantry provides is home deliveries to seniors and disabled residents who are unable to come to our pantry on their own accord. We are looking for volunteers to use their own transportation to assist us with making these deliveries on Friday mornings and/or afternoons. This opportunity is an excellent way to serve some of our residents who are in need of special care!
Bread delivery: Every Monday two Kroger locations in the Columbus area (Bethel Road location and Henderson Road location) are kind enough to donate bread to our food pantry. Being the 3rd largest food pantry in Ohio, this bread is very vital to the nearly 1,100 families we serve each month! We are looking for a volunteer (or a group with rotating volunteers!) who is to pick up bread from two Kroger locations and deliver it to our food pantry on Mondays. Bread can be picked up between 9:30am and 11:30am and our pantry is located just 15 minutes away from these locations!
Whether you are looking for a one-time service event or an ongoing volunteer project, we would love to hear from you! Please contact us at 614-227-1600.
